According to his lore, he was a slaver turned crime lord of „The Xanathar Guild”. In Dungeons and Dragons lore, Xanathar is a beholder (that many-eyed thing in the background). Maybe even „what’s with the funky looking goldfish?”. While we’re at it, you’ve probably wondered at some point „who is this so called Xanathar”.
I believe that is because it balances the Player content and the DM content exceptionally well.
